Rural police teams respond slightly faster than urban police teams

On average, rural police teams respond slightly faster to reports of crimes that are likely to be solved than their counterparts in urban areas and large cities. So concludes the Netherlands Court of Audit in a report concerning the time taken to respond to reports made to the police in the first seven months of 2017.

In rural areas, nearly 75% of the reports of crimes that are likely to be solved that the Court of Audit could follow over time were dealt with within ten days. The teams in urban areas were only very slightly slower, but in the large cities the response rate was just 62.5%.

Focus audit

The investigation of the police response time is a new type of audit for the Court of Audit. It is more concerned with current developments and begins with a sharply defined question and is carried out in a relatively short period of time (three months). No recommendations are made.
