Support for big companies – learning from the past

In a letter to the House of Representatives and the Senate of 26 June 2020, the Netherlands Court of Audit considers the government support provided to big companies – learning form the past. The letter summarises lessons learned in the past in order to help parliament, if necessary, decide on the support provided to big companies.

The lessons have been drawn from previous investigations performed by the Court of Audit and also from parliamentary investigations and inquiries.

The letter presenting the lessons learned is the first publication regarding an ongoing investigation into the support being provided to big companies during the corona crisis. This summer we will carry out a brief study of a number of current support operations for big companies and will look at the extent to which the lessons from the past are being applied.

The letter of 26 June 2020 and the study to be published after the summer are part of a series of investigations into various aspects of the corona crisis. A copy of the letter was also sent to the ministers concerned.

The letter is only in Dutch available.
