Improvements at young offenders' institutions. Ministry of Justice does not yet know what the effect on young offenders is
Treatment is far more expensive but the budget has been cut as there are fewer young offenders
The detention and treatment of young people in young offenders' institutions (both private and public) has improved since 2007. The Court of Audit has found that young people are gradually helped towards their release after a period of detention and follow-up care after release is a statutory requirement. The improvements have come at a cost, however. As in 2007, there is still no insight into the outputs, effects and results of the care young offenders receive after their release.
