Not all climate change risks covered by policy
Costs will be higher if measures are postponed, action required by new government
The Netherlands might be ill prepared for the consequences of climate change. The Delta Programme protects the country against the risk of flooding, but the government has little if any policy to cover other climate risks, such as those to public health, nature, and energy security, and policy coordination is weak. Taking timely measures to reduce the risks will prevent higher costs in the future. The Court of Audit comes to these conclusions in its report, Adaptation to Climate Change: strategy and policy, published on 15 November 2012.
