Netherlands Court of Audit open to the public on 14 September!
The Netherlands Court of Audit will be opening its doors to the public on Heritage Day, Saturday 14 September. The Court's offices are rarely open to the public so Heritage Day is a unique opportunity to take a peek behind the door of Lange Voorhout 8 in The Hague.
The Court of Audit moved into its current premises in 1868. The building comprises an old part (visible from Lange Voorhout) and a new part designed by the architect Aldo van Eyck and opened in 1997. The building, originally erected in 1394, currently houses some 200 people. Van Eyck's design for the new part had to be in keeping with the old part. Inspired by rainbows, van Eyck decided to work with circular shapes. The result is a building in which no two offices are the same. The inspiration for the restaurant was an Arab tent.
Curious?
Visitors can view the building individually or on a guided tour between 10.00 and 16.00. The guided tour will explain both the history of the Court of Audit and the building and the Court's work. The last guided tour starts at 15.30. There is also an exiting treasure hunt for younger visitors.
Opening the building to the public on Heritage Day is one of the Court of Audit's activities in the run-up to its bicentennial anniversary in 2014.
