Audit institutions discuss innovation at EUROSAI Congress

The Court of Audit will close the EUROSAI congress on 19 June with a plenary session of the audit institutions present from the countries of ‘geographical’ Europe. The audit institutions are expected to commit themselves to the ambition of further innovating their work in the years ahead. Innovation has been the central theme of the Congress held this week.

Some 200 participants at the Congress, including 50 Board members have used the Congress to confer with each other at a series of workshops. They have discussed the kind of culture and organisation that are necessary to innovate. Staff, managers and Board members must have the freedom they need to experiment. Another important topic has been communication. The participants have shared their experiences on how to present audit findings as effectively as possible. The use of images, digital techniques, meetings and social media can help. Open data, which makes information more widely available to the public, is also an important topic for audit institutions.

To mark the Court of Audit’s bicentenary, the Court was appointed Chair of EUROSAI, the European Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions, on 16 June. Some 49 audit institutions from throughout Europe and the European Court of Auditors in Luxembourg are members of EUROSAI.
