President Stuiveling calls for greater transparency in NATO
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization and the dozens of entities that operate within it could improve their public accountability.
Greater public accountability would produce a more efficient international alliance, contended the Court of Audit’s President, Saskia J. Stuiveling. She was speaking at the plenary session on the final day of the annual NATO Parliamentary Assembly. It was held this year in The Hague on Monday 24 November and was attended by more than 250 members of parliament from 28 NATO member states. Ms Stuiveling had been invited to speak to the Assembly in recognition of the Court’s efforts to move the debate on transparency and accountability for NATO expenditure forward. The Court launched a special thematic website entitled NATO Transparency in June 2014 and updated it to take account of its most recent work on 18 November.
