List of candidates for the vacancy on the Court of Audit’s Board

The Court of Audit has prepared a list of six candidates to fill the vacancy on its Board.

The list of candidates was submitted to the House of Representatives on 24 April 2015. A vacancy will arise on the Board on 1 June 2015 following to the retirement of the Court’s President, Saskia J. Stuiveling.

This is the first step in the procedure to fill the vacancy on the Board. The House of Representatives takes up the baton from here.

The candidates are:

  1. Ms F.C. Giskes, mayor of Texel
  2. Ms E.M. Sent, professor of economics, Radboud University Nijmegen; member of the Senate of the States General
  3. Ms A. Roelvink-Verhoeff, deputy justice at the courts of appeal in Arnhem-Leeuwarden and The Hague
  4. Ms J.M. de Vries, director, MEE Nederland, Utrecht
  5. Ms M.G.W. den Boer, guest professor, security studies, Macquarie University, Sydney; academic dean, Police Academy, Apeldoorn; director of a research and consultancy bureau
  6. K. Douma, project manager, Netherlands Institute of Chartered Accountants (NBA), Amsterdam

Under the Government Accounts Act 2001, the Court of Audit must prepare a public list of six candidates to fill a vacancy on its Board. Candidates can put themselves forward following the publication of notices announcing the vacancy.

The House of Representatives decides on the list of candidates

In accordance with the law, the House of Representatives now decides on the list of candidates. The Committee on Government Expenditure will prepare a list of three nominees and present it to the House to vote on. The government will then make the appointment by Royal Decree. The government will subsequently appoint the Board´s President from among the Board´s incumbent members, also by Royal Decree.

In accordance with the Constitution, members of the Court of Audit´s Board are appointed for life.

Until the vacancy is filled, the Board will be made up of Kees Vendrik (also acting President) and Arno Visser as from 1 June 2015.
