The Cabinet agreed on 10 July to the Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations´ nomination of Arno Visser (49) as President of the Court of Audit.

The appointment will take effect on 15 October 2015. Mr Visser will be the 23rd President of the Court of Audit. He succeeds Saskia J. Stuiveling, who stood down at the end of May.

The Board will adopt a new strategy for the Court of Audit in the autumn. Arno Visser said, ‘Public money should go hand in hand with public accountability and public control. It sounds obvious and simple but you have to be smart and stand in the public´s shoes. We are convinced that digitisation, advances on the web and greater access to information through smart devices will contribute to new, dynamic forms of public accountability and control. They will widen the conversation about the government´s performance and operation and enable every member of the public to join in at any moment. I am looking forward to playing my part and working with Kees Vendrik and Francine Giskes.’

About the Court of Audit

The Court of Audit checks that the Dutch government spends public funds and implements policy as intended. As a High Council of State, its independence from the government is laid down in the Constitution. The Board is made up of three persons. As well as Arno Visser, they are Kees Vendrik and Francine Giskes, who will join as a new member on 15 October when Arno Visser is appointed President. Kees Vendrik will be the interim President until that date.
