Use of private companies to implement development cooperation spread over many countries and programmes
Minister has limited insight into impact of the use of private companies to implement development assistance policy
Private companies and organisation in dozens of countries receive development funds from the Netherlands. Hundreds of companies and organisations in many sectors receive about 6% of the total development aid of €4.3 billion. The private sector creates opportunities for sustainable development but the fragmentation makes implementation more laborious. The Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation has only limited insight into what is actually achieved by the funding provided to companies in the Netherlands and developing countries.
