Cooperation with SAIs in South-East Africa
At a formal Kick-Off Meeting in South Africa’s Pretoria Member of the Board of the Netherlands Court of Audit Mr Ewout Irrgang opened Monday 4 February 2019 a conference with the national Supreme Audit Institutions of Tanzania, Mozambique and Kenya with a speech.
Board members of Afrosai-e, the sector organization of English speaking Supreme Audit Institutions in Africa, were present. Subject of this cooperation: accompanying audit on how the governments of Tanzania, Mozambique and Kenya handle the oil and gas industry.
The Netherlands Court of Audit is asked for support because of it’s broadly experience on technical assistance in international audit work and it’s expertise on performance audit. The Dutch experience for decades in the gas sector and the way the Netherlands government takes its responsibility are relevant in this regional project. Guidelines of the world organization of Supreme Audit Institutions, Intosai, on this topic of audit will be applied in this cooperation.
The Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs is financing this project.
The signing ceremony of a memorandum of Understanding with the SAIs involved will take place on 5 February. In this two day conference the demarcation of future audits by the African SAIs will be explored.
