Accounts Chamber of the Russian Federation steps down as chair of INTOSAI
The Accounts Chamber of the Russian Federation relinquished its presidency of INTOSAI, the international organisation of supreme audit institutions (SAIs), on Friday 4 March 2022. A number of SAIs had previously suspended all relations with the Russian SAI in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and had called for this further step to be taken.
On Thursday 3 March, the governing board of the European organisation of SAIs, EUROSAI, announced the suspension its relations with both the Russian and the Belorussian SAIs, and also called upon INTOSAI to consider the suspension of the Russian presidency of INTOSAI. This action followed the next day.
The Netherlands Court of Audit had already decided on Tuesday 1 March no longer to take part in any events chaired or organised by the Russian SAI, and had also called on the Russian SAI to resign the chair of INTOSAI. Along with many other SAIs, the Netherlands Court of Audit last week called on the governing boards of INTOSAI, EUROSAI and the Russian SAI itself, to take this step.
