Netherlands Court of Audit to close office one day a week to save energy

As from 4 November, the Court of Audit  will close its office in The Hague during the coming winter months as one of its energy-saving measures. For the time being, staff will work from home on Fridays as part of the Court’s energy-saving package.

The European Commission has called on the EU member states, including the Netherlands, to reduce their energy consumption this winter. The Dutch government is setting an example by announcing a raft of measures, including lowering the thermostats in government buildings. The Court of Audit is responding not only by adjusting its heating and cooling settings but also by closing its office one day in the week. The various energy saving measures will remain in place until at least the end of March 2023. They are expected to cut energy consumption by about 15%.

All members of staff are also being urged to save energy in the office and at home.
