Court of Audit in talks with minister about access to CBS data
The Netherlands Court of Audit announced in a letter to the House of Representatives on 29 June 2023 that it was in talks with the Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy regarding its access to data kept by Statistics Netherlands (CBS). This minister is politically responsible for legislation concerning CBS.
In several recent audits, the Court has been denied direct access to certain data managed and processed by CBS. The Ministers of Finance and of the Interior and Kingdom Relations are also taking part in the talks. The aim is to find a permanent solution that recognises the Court’s legal status, tasks and powers so that it can carry out its audits independently and unhindered.
